Aalborg Portland
– Part of the Solution

Aalborg Portland has been supplying cement to Denmark since 1889. The company is known for delivering products of high quality and strength, as well as for its foresight, innovation, and international outlook, which have provided new and improved solutions for construction and society. In recent years, the company’s focus has been on making Denmark a pioneer by setting a green direction for both the cement and construction industries.

Aalborg Portland produces cement, the main ingredient in the world’s most widely used building material, concrete. Cement is highly energy-intensive to produce and leads to significant CO2 emissions. And that is exactly what Aalborg Portland has set out to change.

The company is focused on reducing the CO2 emissions associated with cement production by increasing the share of alternative fuels, developing new products with a lower carbon footprint, and researching methods and technologies for CO2 capture.

Additionally, a close integration with the local community creates symbioses that enhance resource efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. For example, surplus heat from the cement kilns is used to heat up to 30,000 homes in Aalborg through the district heating network. An initiative with even greater potential. Aalborg Portland’s transformation is progressing, and the company delivers the largest single contribution from industry to Denmark’s reduction target of 70% before 2030.
